Small Objects of Desire

Ansae Ltd. was formed in 1998 by Jeff Graham and Andrew Watkins in order to develop their vision of ubiquitous computing. The company has grown rapidly following the immediate success of the interactive exhibit controller Puppeteer

Jeff and Andrews’ technical and innovative electronic expertise, their understanding of project management and an ability to keep things simple has lead to a track record of successful development projects.

Ansae was the name given to the rings of Saturn when they were first observed from the Earth. In a small telescope the rings appear as two small handles either side of the planet. Ansae is Latin for handles but it also means opportunity. The imagery of the full circle and the reference to ‘hand-held’ devices is perfect for the company name.

What?

Ansae believe that future development of computing will be in the direction of smaller more mobile devices, with a wider variety of user interfaces, often relying on wireless communications and co-operating together. Increases in processor performance and power consumption will allow the migration of intensive activities, such as real time voice recognition, multimedia and environment awareness, to be placed into small portable devices.

Computing devices should be small, simple and very, very good at their job. They should be able to perform their functions with the minimum of fuss and user intervention. We are going against the flow in rejecting high levels of functionality and complex user interactions, in favour of single purpose devices, with clear human sized interfaces.

Ansae has skills in electronic and software technologies that support this vision of mobile computing and aim to become a significant player in key markets which can benefit from these tools. These technical skills will be backed by a commitment to good industrial design, marketing and management skills, to produce a company that will lead, rather than follow, the market over the next few years.

Where?

Ansae has focused on the Leisure industry in general and the Museum, Art Gallery and Exhibitions sector specifically with products designed to exploit the increasing requirements for entertaining and informative visitor experiences.

Issues of access for education, special needs, and foreign visitors need to be addressed as more and more institutions find themselves competing for visitors. Ansae products and services can bring a new level of understanding, drama and enjoyment to all exhibitions and galleries.
